The Mind Garden moves to Barrow in Furness

On a cold and misty day November day,  Andy and the team joined volunteers from Mind in Furness to plant the Mind Garden in its new home in Barrow in Furness. The garden is not a recreation of the Chelsea Garden, but more of a reinterpretation in a space that has sat empty for 50 years or so.

The benches and silver birches were planted and installed in the early summer, so on this trip Andy and the team planted out the perennials. The walls have been replaced by a range of mixed evergreen and deciduous curved hedges that will grow up and create enclosed spaces for people to gather. The steps have been refashioned into more benches. The plants were supplied as 9cm pots. Including all the spring bulbs there has been a lot of planting to do.

This garden will act as a much needed green lung in an urban space and is a brilliant example of the work that Project Giving Back does in sponsoring Chelsea gardens and helping them to have a life beyond the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
