The Andy Sturgeon Design team visit a public realm garden in Amsterdam

Andy Sturgeon Team Study Trip to the Netherlands

The studio team is just back from their yearly overseas study trip. This time to the Netherlands, where we visited the cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht. Our visit to Amsterdam included an excellent tour of new and old public projects led by Ton Muller, a landscape architect who’s been the Head of Landscape Design at the Municipality of Amsterdam for 25 years. This tour allowed us to learn more about the planting palette that is used in the city, the strategy for the coming years and how the city is coping with the challenges of climate change through adapting their planting and maintenance regimes.

In Utrecht we enjoyed a bike tour of many inspiring public buildings and gardens – and a boat tour to enjoy a waterside view of the city.

These trips are invaluable the Andy Sturgeon Design team to expand their knowledge about new approaches to landscape and planting and see a wide range of locations – all of which informs their work and brings innovation to their designs.
