andy sturgeon design shortlisted for sgd 2025 awards
Andy Sturgeon Design are pleased to announce we have been shortlisted for an award at this years Society of Garden Designers Awards.
Our Isle of Wight Garden has been shortlisted in the Medium Residential Landscapes & Gardens category.
The house is set into a very steep north facing slope and the garden was largely inaccessible and unusable. Our brief was to create a usable garden that complimented the modern architecture, anchored the house in its setting while turning an open site into an enclosed, intimate space hidden from passers-by. We created a new route through the garden and created terraces with curved walls that created shelter from the prevailing winds and the sun while we enhanced glimpse views of the sea.
We replaced the species poor grassy slope with an incredibly biodiverse habitat in the form of a Mediterranean garden filled with plants that we chose for their climate resilience and low water use as well as aesthetic and ecological value.
This was a great garden to design. The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony in February 2025.
