Andy Sturgeon Design Garden Featured on Television

A garden originally designed by Andy Sturgeon Design has been featured on television.

The Replacement Homes marketing suite was the first completed landscape as part of a larger masterplan development in Earls Court. This site was within a car park to the north of Empress State Building, blocked off by a wall and containing existing trees. Our plan transformed the plot into a welcoming, accessible garden with lawns, areas for natural play and generous planting. We included groves of birch trees and ornamental beds of perennials to attract insects, wildlife and pollinators.

The completed garden in 2016

Our work at the site was completed in 2016 and the birch groves have since matured and grown but we are delighted to see that the garden has now become a vital community space. Called the Aisgill Community Hub Garden managed by The Earls Court Development Company and Hammersmith Community Garden Association, but most importantly by a group of local volunteers.

While the development continues all around, the garden is a green oasis in a very urban setting surrounded by the sounds and sites of construction. The original design is very much in evidence and well cared for by the group, many of whom have never gardened before. There is one key change – the group have added a large vegetable patch on one of the lawns.

It is wonderful to see the garden has become the thriving community space that we originally envisaged that improves the quality of people’s lives. The garden is featured on Gardeners’ World on the BBC in November.
