This newly built house covers ten acres in a prominent place at the highest point of the South Downs.
We worked closely with the owners, architects, Baker Brown, and South Downs National Park to find a design that would look beautiful and blend seamlessly with the surrounds while adhering to the strict protected-area planning policies.
The architects concealed much of the house by setting it into the hillside and with the chalk spoil from the excavations, we shaped the slopes to match the surrounding landscape and create a chalk downland meadow. Around the house we created a secluded terraced garden set behind flint walls to instantly root the new home in this beautiful piece of the British countryside.
