21 Moorfields wins City of London Building of the Year 2025
We are delighted to announce that 21 Moorfields has been awarded the 2025 City of London Building of the Year by The Architects’ Company.
The new UK headquarters for Deutsche Bank was designed by WilkinsonEyre and developed by Land Securities, Andy Sturgeon Design was responsible for the Landscape Architecture – designing the roof terraces and public realm.
Our work is recognised by the jury particularly for how the outdoor spaces, terraces and green infrastructure contribute to the civic quality of the project.
21 Moorfields is an impressive architectural and engineering achievement. It is an over-station development built above Moorgate’s Elizabeth Line station. It spans the size of a football pitch and bridges 60 metres above very active underground infrastructure — all achieved without interruption to the station or rail services below.
Judges described it as a “tour de force both of architectural thinking and creative ollaboration,” praising the building’s expressive steel structure, its handling of asymmetrical supports, the integration of public routes, and a link to the nearby Barbican.
Our landscape design for 21 Moorfields plays a fundamental part in what made this project stand out. Approximately 20% of the site is devoted to open and planted areas. Our schemes unite the building with its surroundings, facilitating new public routes, making space for people, movement and pause. The roof terraces have biophilic design at their heart, allowing visitors and workers to benefit from the benefits of nature, be it from looking out of the window or spending time on the generous terraces. Our climate resilient planting palette will allow these roof gardens to flourish in the years to come.
