villa gardens

Architectural light feature on the villa patio

kyiv, ukraine

completed: 2012

client: private

size: 2.2 hectare

The underlying concept is to settle a new contemporary villa into what appears to be a natural landscape.  This includes contoured ground, rock outcrops, swimming lakes and planting.  The intention is that the geometry of the building extends out into this landscape although the rectangular and linear and therefore more obviously man-made elements are restricted to the areas closest to the house. Specifically, this includes a spa area that is designed as the main entertaining hub and a courtyard Zen garden created by the bedroom wing.

Other areas beyond the house become more organic in shape. There is an implication that this is the site of a former dwelling and paths and walls that could be ancient foundations are present in several areas.
