lakeside garden

ekaterinberg, russia

completed: 2013

client: private

size: 4 hectares

This contemporary villa sits in a rural setting on a lake near Ekatarinberg and included a private garden and sports complex. Towards the lake, a series of water meadows offered a natural environment and wildlife habitats. The new garden needed to relate to the contemporary style of the house and at the same time provide a visual connection to the lake and surrounding views. Our solution was to introduce modern formality close to the house, becoming more naturalistic and organic in shape further afield, until the garden effectively blended into the landscape. From the formal garden and terraces, long stone steps led to a pavilion building and lawn area. A sinuous path transformed from gravel to boardwalk flanking the large rounded pond before descending into the meadows. Rocky paths, planting and a stream completed the naturalistic feel.
