Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) our design and approach were instrumental in this potentially contentious house obtaining planning permission.   Choices of materials were key along with the planting which anchors this tall building into its sloping site.  A timber clad wall hides the basement from the road simultaneously creating a private courtyard 

The steps to the front door were designed to be inviting rather than daunting as they climb up nearly 3 metres from the driveway.  Several turns, a series of landings, short flights and deep treads were the solution.  The house seemed almost isolated within the plot so the hard landscaping, particularly the steps in the front and back and the pool wall, forge a link between house and garden
