I relished the prospect of working in an historic setting such as this 18th century building which was bought in 1814 by the Duke of Wellington on behalf of George III.  The existing garden in the heart of Paris had a wonderful framework of mature trees and shrubs but the design was almost non-existent.  The challenging brief was to create a garden which could host functions for royalty and heads of state and provide colour through the year.   The budget was minimal and we were barely allowed to change anything but we introduced structure and shape to the planting and devised carefully worked successional planting schemes.
